Our Commitment to Access

Everyone should be able to use this website, including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or other assistive technology. Plumbing Pros treats accessibility as a real responsibility, not a checkbox — and as an ongoing goal rather than a finished project.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, a widely used standard for web accessibility. We describe this as our target because a website is never truly done: content changes, technology changes, and we keep working to keep up.

Features Built Into This Site

This site is built so it can be used entirely with a keyboard — every link, button, and form field can be reached and used without a mouse. Images that carry meaning include text descriptions, and decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.

We use readable text sizes with strong contrast between text and background, and the layout adapts when you enlarge text or zoom your browser. Headings follow a clear order, navigation stays in the same place on every page, and links are written so their purpose is clear out of context.

What We Are Still Working On

Some parts of the web are harder to get right, and we are honest about that. Older pages may have gaps we have not caught yet, and embedded third-party tools do not always behave the way we would like. When we find a problem, we fix it — and we welcome reports from visitors who spot something we missed.

We check the site on a regular basis and fold accessibility checks into our normal update process. Each round of fixes makes the next visit smoother for everyone, including people who never use assistive technology.

Compatibility With Assistive Technology

We design and test this site to work with the tools people actually use: popular screen readers, screen magnifiers, speech recognition software, and standard keyboard navigation. Because every combination of browser and assistive technology behaves a little differently, we cannot test them all — but we follow the practices that make compatibility likely across the board.

Semantic HTML gives assistive technology the structure it needs: real headings, real lists, real buttons, and labels on every form field. We avoid tricks that look fine visually but confuse a screen reader, like using images of text instead of actual text.

Plain Language and Clear Design

Accessibility is not only about code. We write page content in plain, everyday language and keep sentences short, because clear writing helps everyone — including people with cognitive disabilities, people reading in a second language, and anyone skimming on a phone.

Pages follow a predictable layout, error messages on forms say exactly what went wrong and how to fix it, and we never rely on color alone to convey meaning. If a step in a process matters, we say so in words as well as in design.

Making New Content Accessible

Accessibility is part of how we add new content to this site, not something bolted on afterward. When we publish a new page, we write descriptive headings, add text descriptions to images, and check that links make sense on their own. Forms get clear labels and helpful error messages from the very beginning.

This habit matters because a website grows over time. One accessible page is easy; keeping hundreds of pages accessible takes a routine. By building these checks into our normal publishing process, new content arrives accessible instead of needing fixes later.
